Fortescue Public Environment Report 2008 - Published November 2009

Fortescue and its subsidiaries are committed to identifying, developing and exporting mineral resources in a manner which increases value whilst minimising environmental impact.

Fortescue believes in strong working relationships with government agencies such as the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC), Department of Industry and Resources (DOIR) and environmental stakeholder groups such as the Conservation Council.

This transparency helps to ensure government and community expectations are met and ongoing approvals granted in a timely manner.

Fortescue continues to foster a strong environmental ethic amongst its workforce through staff inductions and training programs. Fortescue believes it is everybody's responsibility to look after the environment we work in and to take ownership of working procedures that ensure minimal impact objectives are met.

Fortescue continues to look for innovative ways to improve industry accepted environmental management of mineral exploration, construction, mining, rail transportation and port operations.

Approvals
Fortescue has received environmental approval from State and Federal governments for Fortescue's infrastructure and mining developments in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

Construction of the port and rail has concluded, following approved Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) and the approroval process for expansion activities has begun. These plans ensure construction and operations comply with the stated corporate agenda of "Minimal Environmental Impact". Fortescue's approved Public Environmental Review (PER) documents and Environmental Management Plans are uploaded on this website as they become available.
