Fortescue Group Manager Strategy demonstrates Fortescue’s innovative spirit at Business News 40under40 awards

Fortescue Group Manager Strategy, John Paul Olivier was recognised at the prestigious WA Business News 40under40 awards. Mr Olivier was also named Intrapreneur of the Year for his work driving Fortescue’s innovation agenda and productivity and efficiency program.

Together with team members from across the business, Mr Olivier was instrumental in establishing Fortescue’s landmark partnership with CSIRO on the development of its innovative hydrogen technology. He also leads Fortescue’s productivity and efficiency program that builds on Fortescue’s proud history of embracing innovation and captures ideas from across the business to deliver safety improvements and substantial cost savings.

Commenting on the award, Mr Olivier praised his 40under40 peers, saying it was an honour being recognised amoung such a diverse and talented group of West Australians.

“This award reflects the hard work and innovative spirit of everyone at Fortescue, a company that encourages everyone to think outside the box, challenge the status quo and push the boundaries on what can be achieved. I’m looking forward to working with the team to drive further innovation and cost improvements at Fortescue,” Mr Olivier said.

Chief Executive Officer, Elizabeth Gaines, congratulated Mr Olivier for being recognised at the 40under40 awards and for his ongoing contribution to Fortescue.

“During his time at Fortescue, John Paul has worked with a dedicated team to harness productivity and efficiency improvements across the business. His work launching our partnership with CSIRO, to collaborate on the economic opportunities associated with hydrogen, has ensured we are at the forefront of this once in a generation opportunity.”

“Fortescue is a world leader in leveraging innovation across our operations to deliver safety and performance improvements. Our autonomous haulage fleet has safely travelled close to 25 million kilometres since the first autonomous truck was introduced to our operations in 2012, placing us at the forefront of this technology.”

“In addition, our work with CSIRO is an element of Fortescue’s new energy agenda that is focussed on increasing the efficiencies of the Pilbara network, extending gas usage across our operations and investigating a range of renewable energy options,” Ms Gaines said.

Ms Gaines also paid tribute to the other winners. “As a proud West Australian company, we know that our State is built on the entrepreneurism of our community. The latest 40under40 winners prove this spirit is alive and well in our next generation of young leaders,” Ms Gaines said.
