Coronavirus (COVID-19) update
Mar 4, 2020
Fortescue Metals Group (Fortescue) is pleased to report that our team member at Christmas Creek who presented with symptoms that met the Department of Health’s minimum criteria for testing on 3 March 2020 had a negative test result and does not have COVID-19.
This is welcome news and ensuring our workforce is healthy, safe and informed remains our number one priority.
Since the outbreak of the coronavirus in January, we have communicated with our teams, suppliers and contractors across the business to ensure health and hygiene practices are followed and travel guidelines understood. All of these measures and protocols will continue in place, as follows:
- Team members who have travelled to Iran, mainland China, Italy and South Korea have been asked not to return to site or the Fortescue Centre for at least 14 days after they have travelled. We have asked team members to advise of any other overseas travel prior to returning to site.
- If a team member presents with potential COVID-19 symptoms, our leaders and health specialists on site will complete a health assessment checklist that is consistent with the World Health Organisation advice.
- Non-essential travel to Fortescue sites has been postponed and international travel to a number of overseas countries has been restricted, in line with the Federal Government guidelines.
- At this stage we do not anticipate any impact to production schedules, and flights and rosters in and out of our sites are operating as usual. Our office based teams are working as normal, with some teams in Shanghai and Singapore working from home.
