Fortescue is proposing the development of a green hydrogen and green ammonia production facility; leveraging British Columbia’s clean hydroelectricity to produce approximately 140,000 tonnes per year of green hydrogen, yielding approximately 700,000 tonnes per year of green ammonia. With a 1 gigawatt (GW) installed capacity, including 900 megawatts (MW) of electrolyzer capacity, Project Coyote will produce green hydrogen to be distributed as a fuel throughout British Columbia to serve the domestic market, and the balance of output will be converted to green ammonia for sale domestically and to export markets.
The Project would be situated at the Willow Cale Industrial Park in Prince George on the unceded traditional territory of the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation.
Project Coyote is poised to be one of the largest green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in Canada, catalyzing the British Columbia hydrogen sector, contributing to provincial and federal decarbonization goals, and raising Canada’s profile as a global producer, supplier, and consumer of green hydrogen and green ammonia.
